So I decided to go on a diet
but little did I know that when I did
my appetite would grow in leaps and bounds
especially for foods I now forbid
myself to even look at, like the mounds
of cakes and cookies and that yeasty bread
with rosemary or cheddar cheese baked in
then toasted, slabbed with butter, yum! Instead
I munch on lettuce because carbs are sin,
full of the calories that lead to flab,
the stuff that’s gathered on my hips and waist
that jiggles when I walk and makes me grab
the low-fat dressing which is low in taste.
I steer my cart around the produce section
and make a boring, sensible selection.
