Horseshoes and Hand Grenades

Standard

I think the saying goes, “Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.”  Well, I came close to getting my poem “The Prayer of an End-User” published.  Close enough to get a handwritten note (instead of a form letter) as to why the poem was “ultimately decided against.”.  There was even a suggestion to take it from blank verse to a sonnet (which it was close to in length).  I did spend some time attempting to do that yesterday, but in the end my attempts to “sonnetize” seemed to “sanitize” it, and some of the wordplay was lost, so it’s back to the drawing board….
