Day 6

Standard

Miss Jean\'s Roof

The day started early, at around 4 a.m. because of a thunderstorm.  There’s no sleeping through a Mississippi thunderstorm!  And when you’re in a tent you feel it even more.  During breakfast we lost electricity, and the storm kept hammering us.  A couple of times it hit pretty close, and when it does the scoreboard on the ballfield lights up (the away team is still leading, lol).  Due to the weather, we couldn’t work on finishing the roof.  The roof crew went to the other jobs (drywall and painting), and after a few hours the storm abated, so we headed over to Miss Jean’s house and got back to work…in the rain (though it wasn’t coming down hard).  I learned how to lay a roof vent and the cap shingles and even got to pound the last nail.

Someone’s started fires in the two chimneas, and we’re about to partake in some hot apple crisp and homemade vanilla ice cream.  Does life get any better than this?  I submit that it cannot!  Hard to believe our time here is drawing to a close.  We’ll be up early and out of here by 6:30 a.m.  Guess I’ll have time to reflect then.  For now…it’s time to indulge!
