Today will be one of those “focus” days for me, the kind that shakes me out of the routine to look at the big questions in life. I’m leaving in a few minutes to go comfort a friend. This same friend lost her son in Afghanistan two months ago. Yesterday she got the news that her youngest daughter took her life. This time I can do more than sympathize, as my brother-in-law took his life years ago. I remember the pain, anguish, anger, and regret that swirled around us for weeks afterward. Still, I don’t know what to say, but I’m not letting that stop me from going. After that I’m headed to a surprise birthday celebration for a young woman in our church who is turning 25.
Life is so short.
